Step 5 of 10

Swaps for cooking and baking

Butter, cream, and eggs have plant stand-ins for many recipes. Learning a few ratios makes home cooking feel normal again.

This week's task

Replace one animal ingredient in a recipe you know: oil or plant margarine for butter, plant drink for milk, or a flax egg for one baking egg. Open the swap finder.

Common pitfall

Trying a brand-new dessert recipe while learning swaps. Adapt a dish you already trust.

Tip

One successful swap builds more confidence than five failed experiments.
