Orthodox Great Lent

Forty days of fasting before Orthodox Easter, from Clean Monday to Holy Saturday. Many tavernas and home kitchens serve plant-based fasting dishes.

Religious practice is described respectfully and factually. Availability of dishes varies by place and year.

Typically easier to find

Nistisima / post dishes: bean stews, grilled vegetables, seafood in some places, oil-free weeks in stricter practice.
