Origin: Emulsifiers that help mix fat and water in processed foods.
What it depends on: Fatty acids can be from plant oils or animal fats. Without a vegetable origin claim, animal sources remain possible.
Where it typically appears: Margarine, ice cream, bread, cakes, chocolate, whipped toppings.
