Packaged food must show a legal vegetarian or non-vegetarian mark. There is no separate legal vegan mark.

What it assures: Packaged food is marked vegetarian under Indian food labelling rules: a green filled circle inside a square outline.

What it does not assure: It does not mean vegan. Dairy, honey, and other animal products allowed under the vegetarian definition may still be present.

Traces / shared lines: Not a vegan or allergen-trace mark. The legal mark classifies vegetarian vs non-vegetarian composition. It is not an allergen or shared-line statement.

What it assures: Packaged food is marked non-vegetarian under Indian rules: a brown or maroon filled circle inside a square outline.

What it does not assure: It does not grade how much animal ingredient is present. It only signals the non-vegetarian category on pack.

Traces / shared lines: Not a vegan or allergen-trace mark. This is a composition category mark, not a vegan or allergen assurance.
