E120 Karmin (Cochenille) stammt aus getrockneten Schildläusen. Auf US-Packungen steht oft carmine, cochineal extract oder Natural Red 4, nicht E120.

Was bedeuten die drei Stufen?
Immer tierisch heißt: die übliche Handelsform kommt vom Tier. Manchmal tierisch heißt: pflanzliche, mikrobielle, synthetische oder tierische Wege gibt es. Pflanzlich oder mineralisch heißt: die übliche Lebensmittelform ist nicht tierisch, damit Verwechslungen klar sind.
Warum INS und US-Namen?
E-Nummern stehen vor allem auf EU-Packungen. Codex-INS und übliche US-Namen helfen beim Reisen und bei Importware.
Heißt ein Treffer, dass das Produkt tierisch war?
Nein. Der Prüfer markiert nur Namen aus unserem Nachschlagewerk. Bei der mittleren Stufe hängt die Herkunft vom Hersteller ab. Frage die Marke oder suche eine klare pflanzliche Angabe.
Woher kommen die Daten?
Jeder Eintrag nennt Quellen wie EU-Zusatzstoffregeln, Codex INS, FDA-Kennzeichnungspraxis und die Open-Food-Facts-Zutaten-Taxonomie (ODbL). Stand-Daten stehen an jedem Eintrag.
